canadians are the nice guys of north america. we are amiable, positive, and peace-loving. we are not too ambitious, but we’re proud of our significant achievements in the world stage. we might not always be the first to be invited to the party, but people are often pleased that we’re there. we have inner turmoil, but it’s so insignificant to the matter of survival that it hardly detracts from our way of life, and we very frequently dismiss it ourselves as frivolous. we have great achievers in the fields of medicine, engineering, literature, art, and philosophy, but not so many famous generals, politicians, tyrants or depots. canadians are easy-going and love life. canadians love loving. canadians love their wide-open unadulterated spaces, and still manage to charge astronomical prices for urban lifestyles. a canadian would never willingly subjugate a different culture because they were different, or because someone else in that culture once did them some harm. canadians are always somewhat concerned that someone will come along and take away all the things that they love and cherish, and are totally unprepared for that eventuality, even though the possibility seems to grow daily. canadians exploit every opportunity that they can to celebrate anything at all and get comfortably but not dangerously hammered doing it. canadians have great senses of humour. and they spell “humour” with a “u” – well, many of them do. very few canadians make $100 million a year, but there are very many canadians who are comfortable and content.
i love being canadian and all of the things that it entails. happy canada day, canada!
