christmas charity

this weekend, it was my honour and privilege to assist imason in its annual christmas charity, the Toronto Surrogate Santa program, that supplies needy families with christmas gifts and living necessities at this giving time of year. imason raised almost $2000 for three needy families in the Peel community region of Mississauga. it was a joy to be attached to this project, and giving time to this kind of endeavour enriches the lives of everyone involved.

i wrote in a previous post how giving money is a poor substitute for giving of one's self. there is so much need in this world, it seems that the best thing that one can do is give one's time and energy to worthy causes. i'm looking forward to doing more of these kinds of things in the future. although, ayn rand would have us believe that these are for purely selfish purposes. i'm still not convinced of that though. i think that we do the things that we do because of who we are, and i hope that that is my reason for doing the things that i do.

Update (12/23/2006): Our HR Director delivered our Christmas gifts last week, and sent out some feedback from the recipient familes... I think that there's a joy in giving that is absolutely infectious!

"What an wonderful team we have at imason.
I delivered all the amazing gifts that your generous time & money contributions created to three deserving families on Wednesday evening.  As I drove home I realized that I had already received my Christmas gift… the hugs, handshakes, blessings, laughter, smiles and tears on the Martin's, Valencia's and Rodrigues family faces was worth more than what money can buy.  Truly an experience I will not forget, thank you.  You all need to know that what you have done for them was magical and extraordinary.
Thank you from all the families, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to everyone.  Relax and enjoy the holiday season with your friends and family. "

Thanks, Vicki!!!
