 | - i can't believe that only a week ago, i was writing about the lovely canopy of snow and winter that was covering toronto. after two days of plus zero temperatures and rainy gray skies, i've become seriously concerned about the state of the atmosphere and the trends in weather. but al gore is far more capable of explaining these things than i am.

 | - throughout the month of december, and through what little "winter" we will end up having here in toronto, i have been participating in a volunteer program called "out of the cold" which sponsors food, clothing and overnight shelter to toronto's homeless. it's been a fantastic experience that i've long hoped to participate in. tonight, they had legal counsel present in the form of first and second-year law students volunteering their extremely precious free time to give free legal aid and advice... which leads me to the next point...

 | - i did graduate studies in jurisprudence. my bachelor of arts is an honours degree in philosophy. however, apart from having really big words to explain the mess-ups i've made of my personal affairs, philosophy has been such a small part of my life over the last year. one of my new year's resolutions is to reassociate myself with my lost love and to try and recall some of the lessons i've forgotten about the principle science of life, starting with plato and the greeks, and working my way forward over the course of the year to the modern philosophers. it's an ambitious quest, albeit a highly personal one, but i take public transportation, and i read until i reach my destination, so i'll probably make some solid ground over 2008 if i start now!

 | - ... which leads me to the next point. my cats have been such an important part of my life for the past 9 - 10 years. i want to do more to make sure that they are happy and fulfilled. so i want to start to take them places and do things with them that the average apartment cat might not get to do. granted, expedience will probably only let me take one cat out at a time (carrying two bulky cat carriers is not an enterprise i would recommend for anyone, no matter how committed to their cat's welfare they are), but it will make for good blogging, i am sure.

 | - mass effect: my old junior high school colleague, ray muzyka, ceo of bioware, has made another engrossing fantastic RPG that i am enjoying on my xbox. every victory that i score in that game increases my personal envy of him and my regret at not having done more with my youth, as he did. but there's hope for me yet, and his game is still a ripping good one that consumes many spare cycles of my day-to-day thought.

 | - i want, in 2008, to be more aware of the news and events that shape my world, like my friend jim is. i am entering the world at a good time, because there are so many pivotal issues that are coming into play - with the upcoming presidential election in the states, the assassination of bhutton in pakistan, the rise of prominence of russia, and the declining american dollar with the rising cost of oil - there are so very many reasons to be aware at this point in history of the things going on because they all promise to have huge manifest impact in the long term. it's high time i got out of my own head and into the game of life.
|
 | - i've added google's adsense advertising thing to my blog. it was easy, and way down on the bottom of the page, no one is likely to notice or even click on the damn things. but i hope you will, because it would be nice if this stupid blog could make me some kind of internet millionaire and i could retire to pursue more philanthropic exercises.
