Sinéad O'Connor

Sinéad O'Connor on a Rolling Stone that i happened to own

i was reminded today of Sinéad O'Connor. i have her albums in my music library, but they seem to have been shielded from rotation by pure randomness. she has such an incomparable voice and personality, that upon listening to the first track, i was immediately transported to the 80s and 90s when my love for her was strongest. there are plenty of bad girls today in music, but i don't believe that I've seen a rebel who was as passionate and complex as Sinéad.

her mercurial temperament follows into every song she sings... lulling you into a gentle calm with her breathy whispers or her sweet, sincere yearnings.  but within a flash, she shatters your tranquility with her terrible roars of agony and anger.  she produced her first studio album herself at the age of 20, and it is an unparalleled masterpiece of passion, lust, rage and sorrow.  she's become somewhat notorious for being outspoken and unrestrained, but the same can be said for so many brilliant and creative people.  her lack of balance and peace perfectly reflected a period of deep uncertainty and fear in the western world, that we've since become too anaesthetized by consumerism and corporatism to remain aware of.

i don't really have any news to share or insights into her life that her website or wikipedia can't provide more thoroughly or authoritatively, but i somehow believe that my blog would be less representative of me without a little more Sinéad in it.
