movember

movember (formerly known as "november") has been a significant challenge to me so far. work has been incredibly challenging (in a good way - in that i have had fantastic opportunities to work on projects that can really positively impact my clients and their ability to use their own internal information better and more effectively - helping people to do their work easier and better makes me happy! but bad in the sense that i have put in long hours, extra days, and have had to forsake a lot of the activities that i love in order to get the job done)! but the sacrifices that i've had to make are insignificant compared to the sacrifices that illness like prostate cancer causes to men every single day.

according to the canadian movember website, every year in canada alone, 24,700 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 men die from the disease, making it the greatest cancer threat to men. for the most part, i feel that death to men is a fitting end, but there are many men out there who are worth protecting and saving - fathers, brothers, cousins, friends, bosses and sons... everyone knows at least one man who, if you had the choice, you would want to contribute something so that you could help find a way to save them from a deadly incurable disease. if the least that i can do is grow an uncomfortable moustache for a month, then i'm proud to make the effort.

something else you should know about this endeavour is this - my facial hair is like steel wool. it grows sparsely out of my face in completely random directions - and it never grows straight or obligingly. it curls and twists and has the tensile strength of titanium. my hands are completely shredded from having to wash my own face with this moustache. every time i touch my face, i lacerate my fingers and cut the flesh underneath those black barbs that i call a beard. please PLEASE - make this sacrifice worthwhile by sponsoring me in my endeavour to raise awareness about prostate cancer and to fund research into curing this terrible disease!!! thank you so much!!!
